Genomics on the Hill

Genome Canada showcased some of its key research projects and proposed initiatives at Genomics on the Hill on November 22, 2010 in Ottawa. This unique event of Canadian excellence in genomics and proteomics research was an opportunity for Genome Canada funded researchers, such as our own Dr. Hennie van Vuuren and Dr. Steven Lund, to display some of their research and innovations to ministers, MPs, senators, government and embassy officials as well as key stakeholders on Parliament Hill.

The Wine Research Centre’s $3.4 million Grape and Wine Genomics project, led by van Vuuren and Lund, was highlighted at the event. The project is an international wine genomics research and development program that aims to unlock fundamental gene functions with grapevine and yeast cells, ultimately helping growers and winemakers to improve wine production techniques.
