Public speaking is not something that comes naturally for most people. A group of Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH) students decided to change that late last year by forming Nutritalk, a club that gives them the opportunity to practice this valuable skill.
“Dietitians are asked to speak a lot and it’s important to be comfortable in front of an audience,” said Christina Grieve, a fourth year Dietetics student. “Nutritalk lets students improve their public speaking skills and share nutrition and food-related information in a relaxed and fun environment.”
Similar to the Toastmasters format, students meet once a week with each participant playing a different role, such as meeting coordinator, grammarian, tips master or table topics master. One or two students give short, prepared speeches and participants then fill out evaluation forms to offer constructive feedback.
Meetings are held Thursdays from 12:30pm-2pm in MacMillan 258 and are open to all FNH students. For more information, contact Christina Grieve at firstname.lastname@example.org.
