LFS is partnering with the UBC Faculty of Education to offer a new dual degree in Home Economics that will allow students to complete both a B.Sc in Food, Nutrition and Health and B.Ed in Secondary (Home Economics) in under five years.
Kicking off in September 2013, the program will prepare graduates for employment opportunities as Home Economics teachers in secondary schools.
“Students in this program will complete the combined dual degree program earlier than students who go the usual route of earning their Bachelor’s Degree and then their Bachelor of Education,” said Natalie Lim, LFS Undergraduate Student Services Advising Officer. “Our students will complete in May instead of August, allowing them to start their job search.”
Through the Food, Nutrition, and Health (FNH) Major, students have the flexibility to tailor the program to reflect specific interests in food, nutrition, and health without the specialization depth afforded by the other majors. With suitable course selections, students may be prepared to enter UBC’s Home Economics Teacher Education Program once they have completed their B.Sc.
