After almost 20 years with our Faculty, Computer Systems Coordinator Jinglie Dou is set to retire in July 2014. Dou has provided LFS with first class technical support, calmly solving computer issues for our faculty, staff and students.
After graduating with a degree in Math from Shanghai’s Fudan University in 1970, Dou spent the next two decades working for the coal industry and at a university in Wuxi, China, programming and teaching computer science. In the early 80s, he was appointed visiting scholar at the University of Florida and in the early ‘90s, he arrived at UBC. As a visiting scientist, Dou spent a year working with Dr. Shuryo Nakai and Dr. Tim Durance in the Food Science Department. In 1994, he was invited back to the Department to help develop computer-aided techniques for food-related research, and in 1997, the Faculty hired him full-time.
In December 2013, Dou was honoured with the 2013 Shynkaryk Service Award, an annual Faculty award presented to staff members who consistently go above and beyond in their work.
